Setting Up a Custom Domain

A custom domain lets you send and receive support emails from your own domain, like support@yourstore.com.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • A domain you own (e.g., yourstore.com)
  • Access to your domain's DNS settings
  • 15-30 minutes for setup

Step 1: Add Your Domain

  1. Go to Settings → Email Settings
  2. Click Add Domain
  3. Enter your domain name (e.g., yourstore.com or support.yourstore.com)
  4. Click Add Domain
Tip: We recommend using a subdomain like support.yourstore.com or help.yourstore.com. This avoids conflicts with your main email.

Step 2: Configure DNS Records

After adding your domain, you'll see DNS records to add. Log into your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.) and add each record.

Records You'll Add

TypePurpose
MXRoutes incoming email to SDesk
TXT (SPF)Authorizes SDesk to send email from your domain
TXT (DKIM)Signs emails to prove authenticity

Adding Records (General Steps)

  1. Log into your domain registrar
  2. Find DNS Management or DNS Settings
  3. For each record SDesk shows you:
    • Click "Add Record"
    • Select the record type
    • Enter the Name/Host value
    • Enter the Value/Content
    • Save the record

Step 3: Verify Your Domain

  1. Wait 5-10 minutes for DNS to propagate
  2. Return to SDesk and click Verify DNS Records
  3. Green checkmarks appear next to verified records
  4. Once all records are verified, your domain is ready!

DNS Propagation Times

  • Most cases: 5-30 minutes
  • Worst case: Up to 48 hours
  • Tip: If verification fails, wait 30 minutes and try again

Whitelisted Email Prefixes

By default, SDesk accepts emails to these addresses on your custom domain:

  • support@
  • help@
  • orders@
  • returns@
  • shop@
  • contact@
  • info@

Troubleshooting

Domain verification failing?

  • Double-check record values (copy/paste to avoid typos)
  • Wait longer for DNS propagation
  • Check that you added records to the correct domain
  • Some registrars add your domain automatically - don't duplicate it

Not receiving emails?

  • Verify all DNS records are green
  • Check MX record priority (should be highest/lowest number)
  • Send a test email to support@yourdomain.com
